A new Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway will start from July 1st. The link will stop at Qufu as it is a famous cultural city of interest. Using the new connection, it will be much easier and quicker for students to travel from Beijing and Shanghai to the school.

In other news, on June 28th, a master from the school went to attend the 1st Martial Art Sports Meeting of Jining city and was awarded a high-levelled rank.

News, November 2010

A new Shaolin master, Master Shi Yan Wen has joined the school. His biography will follow shortly on the website.

A trial Wing Chun class has started at the school. Every Tuesday morning (8:30-11:30), students can do Wing Chun with Master Zhang. If more than 5 students would like to do it full time, the school will formally set up the Wing Chun class.

Master Shi Yan Chen has travelled to Australia last week. He has been sent by the Shaolin Temple to work on starting the Australia Shaolin Temple.

The heating system in the school has been switched on as to from November 15th as regulated by Chinese law and will last for four months till March 15th or longer if needed. Students are all giving positive feedback about the warm rooms.

The school is accommodating many former students coming back and other students deciding to extend their stay. Returning students need pay no application fee and they receive a discount on tuition.

In a recent yearly inspection by the city education bureau, the school has been praised as “excellent” and of character.

The masters have recently given a performance at the school. The show was recorded and a video of it will hopefully be uploaded soon.

The school is also happy to announce that a new Shaolin master may join in the coming week.

Renovation work at the school is being planned for the shower room to be re-decorated and updated.

The school is most happy to be accommodating several new long term students as well as former students that are now coming back for the second and third times even though the school is only just starting it’s third year. Several students that have stayed for a year have also now extended their training for another year.

Facebook is now variably accessible at the school and for the staff to communicate from.

The school’s facebook group has now over 500 members. The school is grateful for all contributions on the group and those who are able to offer advice and answer questions. Facebook is unfortunately inaccessible for the school though they follow it’s progress.

Next week, the school is going to make some videos of the students daily training for the website. Masters will also perform some of their own best skills, like hard Qigong and advanced forms etc. hopefully available on the website soon.

The school has recently installed an outdoor table tennis table for students to play in their free time.

Students at the school have begun using in the newly built training hall next to the main school building.

The school is very happy to welcome Shaolin Temple Warrior Monk and teacher, Master Du, who is joining to teach at the school. Master Du is a specialist in Palm Blossom fist. His biography follows.

Master Du is a 34th generation warrior monk of the Shaolin Temple. He went to Shaolin Temple to study Kung fu at the age of 11 and stayed there until he was 18. He is very skilled at fist and weapon forms. He specializes in Shaolin 18 weapons animal styles and drunken styles. In the past two years, he followed a traditional master to specialize in Palm Blossom Fist (Mei Hua Quan) and was with the fortune of being accepted for study by the 16th descendant of the Palm Blossom Fist master Han Bai Guang. He is now a senior coach of the traditional Martial Arts Palm Blossom Fist.

He has been teaching since 1998 and has many years of teaching experience. He is currently ranked at level 6. He has won sanda kickboxing competitions in the 65kg weight category and also achieved first place in traditional staff form in the National Martial Arts Competition in Zhongzhou province in the year 2000. In the 2007 international traditional martial arts competition held in Yantai, he was awarded first place in Shaolin south staff. In 2008, he also won the Championship in the 1St Palm Blossom Fist competition.

In late February, work will start at the school to build a new bigger training hall, west of the main school building. Plans for the building have now been completed and are ready to go ahead.

The airport in Qufu is currently running flights to and from both Beijing and Shanghai. The Chinese-language website for Jining Qufu Airport is http://www.jnqfairport.com. Master Wu has began teaching at the school and is leading the Qigong and Bagua practice at the school. Everyone is gaining great benefit from his presence and are very appreciative of having the opportunity to study under him.

New Bagua Master, Wu Shifu

Here is a short biography of the new Bagua Master at the school:

Master Wu, 65 years old, is top-nationally ranked and one of the ten most famous Bagua Martial Artists in China. He was born into a family that became renowned for their practice as Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctors. Under his family’s environment, Master Wu gained a foundation in Traditional Chinese Medicine and later went on to train as a certified Acupuncture and Massage Doctor.

At the age of 15, he started to study Southern Fist with an old martial arts Master in Emei Mountain, Suchuan. There he was introduced to the Wudang School, regarded as the origin of Tai Chi and internal Kung Fu. He has been practicing Kung Fu ever since, for what is now 50 years.

As his practice developed, he searched for a higher understanding of the internal style. In the 1980s, he started to do research into Bagua and from it published many articles in professional journals. His practice and research has culminated in what he now teaches to others, a specially developed and unique system of Bagua.

Students and Masters at the school have been back training after the Christmas break when some students went to visit Shaolin Temple in Henan Province.

Good news from the school is that an accomplished Bagua Master has joined and started teaching at the school. He has 50 years experience in Bagua. His biography and photo to follow.

Master Shi Yan Chen remains teaching in Singapore on behalf of Shaolin Temple.

A community of long-term students are currently studying at the school and will be staying throughout the winter months. For them and future students, a new heating system and radiators are starting to be installed in the main school-building. Work is also being planned on separating the bathroom and shower areas and extending the toilets.

The school’s partnership with the local University in Qufu has also developed so that students will also have opportunity to do cultural/language studies and obtain a related visa validated by the University. The program will in the future be included on the school’s website.

Students at the school had grading on the first day of the new month and performed the fist and weapon forms they have been training in.

A new basketball ring has also been put up in the courtyard for students to enjoy in their spare time.

The school has opened up another school facility in the center of Qufu to teach lessons for local students who would like to train during the summer period.

Qufu Master Shi Yan Hao is currently touring with the Shaolin Performance team in Europe and visiting amongst other countries, the UK, France and Holland.
